Pick ‘n Save Warehouse Foods, the first of its kind in Milwaukee, was opened on March 25, 1975. The warehouse food store was an idea that had been tried and failed in other parts of the country prior to taking root in Milwaukee. Immediately, customers came by the thousands, requiring the local police department to be on constant duty just to direct traffic. It was evident by the end of the first week that Pick ‘n Save was here to stay. One month later, a second Pick ‘n Save store was opened.
Today, 93 Pick ‘n Save stores serve communities across Wisconsin. The Warehouse Foods concept is but a distant memory when shopping our beautiful current stores filled with fresh products, restaurant quality prepared foods, full service counters, meal ideas, food and beverage pairings and more. But the great prices and value of the early days continue to please customers.
In 2009, Pick ‘n Save’s parent company Roundy’s Supermarkets, Inc. was named Outstanding Regional retailer by Progressive Grocer. Contributing to the win was the company’s one-customer-at-a-time approach to service and a commitment to giving back to the communities where our customers and employees live and work.
